Google Pixel 9 Pro Rumors, Expected Price, Release date, Specs and Much More

google pixel 9 pro rumors

Since the Pixel 8 series is considered to be one of the best Android phones available today, everyone is eager to see what the tech giant has to offer with the Pixel 9.

The Pixel 9 was mentioned in a Google app earlier this year, so we know it’s on the way. According to Android Police, some of the code found in the recent beta version 15.14.34.29 appears to be specific to the Pixel 9.

Although there are rumors that Google may add a third phone to the Pixel family this year, the Pixel series usually consists of two smartphones: the Pixel and the Pixel Pro.

The main takeaway from the early leaks is that Google appears to be adopting Apple’s three-device model, with two “Pro” models offering superior cameras and additional functionality. Moreover, the expected optimization for the series also makes us think about the iPhone. It actually has an iPhone-like appearance from the front and side. The only noticeable difference is in the rear camera setup.

However, what can we expect from the Pixel 9 in terms of release date, specifications, design and price?
Below, we’ve got you covered.

Pixel 9 Pro Release Date

On August 13, 2024, Google announced the Pixel 9 Pro at the Made by Google event. Pre-orders go live starting today, on August 13, the same day as the announcement. The Pixel 9 will go on sale from August 22.

Pixel Pro 9 Price Model

Remember that the Pixel 9 Pro XL is the original replacement for the Pixel 8 Pro from last year. Given that the Pro XL has a starting price of $1099 for the 128GB storage model, this marks a price hike. The new, smaller Pixel 9 Pro model is priced at $999 for the 128GB variant, the same as last year’s Pixel Pro.
The prices for each of the many storage options are shown in the following table:

Phone Model128GB256GB512GB1TB
Pixel 9 Pro XL$1099$1159$1279$1499
Pixel 9 Pro$999$1059$1799$1399
Pixel 8 Pro$999$1059$1799$1399
Pixel 7 Pro$899$999$1099N/A

Pixel 9 Pro Specs, Features, Design & Display

• Design

According to recently leaked renders of the X, Google’s upcoming flagship phones Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro will look similar to their predecessors.

The Pixel 9 render, sent by reliable tipster Sidhanshu Ambor, shows the phone in a pastel pink color with a bullet-shaped camera bar — a departure from the previous rectangular design — while still maintaining the iconic Pixel shape. is Similarly, the Pixel 9 Pro render, which is presented in a creamy white color, shows three cameras packed into one bar with a bullet shape. This camera configuration is expected to include a telephoto, ultrawide, and primary sensor, in line with previous Pixel Pro models.

• Display

The aforementioned sources suggest that the Pixel 9 will have a 6.03-inch screen, the Pixel 9 Pro will have a slightly larger 6.1-inch screen, and the Pro XL will have a 6.5-inch screen — contrary to reports from Android Police. All of the above are expected to be 120Hz OLEDs.

• Camera

A 50-megapixel wide-angle camera and a 48-megapixel ultra-wide sensor with macro focus make up the dual-back camera system. You can record 4K video at 24/30/60 frames per second (fps) with the back camera. Super res zooms and optical zoom at 0.5x, 1x, and 2x are also supported. But since there’s no dedicated telephoto lens, you should consider the triple camera found on the Pixel 9 Pro or Pixel 9 Pro XL if that’s important to you.

With a 10.5MP sensor and 95-degree ultra-wide field of vision, the selfie camera can capture and record 4K video at 30 or 60 frames per second. While it won’t match the 42MP sensor on the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL, it should be more than enough for basic selfie snaps and video chats.

Even with entry-level models, Pixel phones generally don’t let users down when it comes to camera performance. When reviewing the Pixel 8, we were impressed with the device’s basic camera performance as well as its AI-powered photo editing features. Google, of course, is still adding AI improvements to its devices—a topic we’ll cover in the software section.

• Performance

Based on Samsung Exynos chipsets, it is generally expected that the Tensor G4 will power the Pixel 9 family.

The new Samsung Modem 5400, which will be powered by the Tensor 4 processor, offers increased performance, increased stability and faster speeds.

But according to some early sources, when the Tensor G5 chipset is released alongside the Pixel 10, Google may finally be rolling out an entirely new chipset. This is all speculation at this point.

All Pixel 9 phones will be powered by Tensor G4 in the interim.

• Battery

The Pixel 9 has a 4,700mAh battery under the hood, which is the same as the Pixel 9 Pro but less than the 5,060mAh cell that comes with the Pixel 9 Pro XL. Google promises at least 24 hours and up to 100 hours of battery life when using Extreme Battery Saver mode, which turns off most of the phone’s features like 5G data and puts most apps to sleep.

With a 45W USB-C charger (not included), which the phone supports for 27W fast charging, it should be able to charge up to 55% in 30 minutes. Additionally, 15W fast wireless charging is supported.

• Software

Running on Android 15, the Pixel 9 will receive seven years of OS, security, and Pixel Drop updates like any other Pixel smartphone. Accordingly, it should be among the first gadgets to receive the upcoming Android 15 update.

AI is the way of the future when it comes to features. The more powerful Gemini Advanced model is available to Pixel 9 users for free for a whole year. Google’s Gemini is already included inside the Pixel.

Although it’s optional, you can also use Gemini Live as your default assistant instead of Google Assistant. Gemini will be able to connect to a number of services and apps like Google Calendar to give you information about things like upcoming events.

The Pixel 9 also includes a completely redesigned Weather app with panels for additional data like humidity, 10-day forecasts, and more, in addition to AI forecasts and summaries.

Closing Words

To be honest, there’s not much about the Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL that excites us. Of course, the most exciting news is the new, smaller Pro variant that’s a first for Google’s Pixel phones. Since Google decided to keep the closest possible similarity between its two Pixel Pro models, opting for the smaller device won’t require you to make too many compromises.

The Pixel 9 Pro might be worth the wait if you’ve been waiting for the smaller Pixel Pro model and feel it’s time to upgrade your phone. After all, there’s not much to encourage buying new high-end flagships from the search engine giant.

In any case, it’s best to hold off until our review thoroughly evaluates both the new features and the overall user experience of the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL.
